| Stone Love's 30th Anniversary : December 14th at Marketplace, Red Hills Road | ||||||
"And
mi seh honey, it's our Anniversary!" Weepow, Rory, Geefus, Billy Slaughter, Swamp Ting, Bill Cosby, Diamond and Richie Feelings ruled the turntables at Marketplace all night while the five thousand strong crowd danced and celebrated this foundation's milestone. Entertainment Heads and media were out in droves and dressed to a tee. Jerome Hamilton, Anthony Red Rose, Flabba, Jack Scorpio, Delano and Christine Hewitt were just some of the big heads who came out to represent. Artists off the stage who passed through were Steve and Julian Marley, Innocent Kru, Calibe, Farenheit, Snaggapuss aka. Mr. Balance, LA Lewis and Ricky Ticky. |
Awards were presented to various artists, dancers and promoters by Stone Love Selectors. John Hype out of Jungle won Best Male Dancer, Bogle, Best International Dancer, Buju - Special of The Year and Vybz Kartel, Best Young Artist. Squidly and Nuffy hosted the stage show which was off - the - chain. K Queens, Lady Mackerel and Queen Paula, Pickeney and Tug A War out of England represented well for the young artists "segment". But when Baby Wayne came on stage, Marketplace tore down. Baby Wayne was last seen by Whaddat?com at Sting 2001 after being on "hiatus" for years. Chuck Fender, Determine, Mad Anju, Lexxus, Daddy Lizard, Flourgan and Red Dragon ripped it up before Spragga kicked off the final set. Babycham, Ward 21, Bling Dawg, Taz and Zumjay blessed the mic much to the delight of the crowd. However, they were there for Buju... Gargamel... Mark Myrie - the Big Man. Once Mr. Mention hit the stage there was no doubt about it... Stone Love Anniversary took home the prize for best mid-size stage show in 2002. Bounty Killer and Wayne Marshall joined him to close it down but not before Junior Gong touched it. |
It was 5:30am and police ordered a lock down. Bounty was none too happy but Buju stayed on for a little bit asking for a bly. Unsuccessful, he left the stage in as good a mood as when he came on. His job here was done and the masses were pleased. Fadda
Pow, yuh dun know, nuff respec' everytime and we'll see you at the 31st. Bless!
