...A'ight.
This was my first Splurt (I think). I've always avoided these parties,
based on the fact that I thought they were 'fun-lovin' soca fiestas. I
am NOT your biggest soca/carnival fan out there. You'll learn this. Actually,
when I walked in, Colin Hinds from Fame FM was spinning and I thought
he was the main attraction for the night. Snapped a
couple of him and headed to the bar.
On the way, I noticed this bizarre contraption in the middle of the venue.
The foam machine. Uh-huh. Very interesting I must
say. AND NO...I did not venture within the depths of the bubbly, lathery
pit. I just watched from on top of the scaffolding. That was cool. Good
idea.
Moving on.
I saw a sign that sort of had a...umm...radiant glow about it. "ALL MIX
DRINKS - $20". Then the masses started pouring in like the foam into the
pit . Then I saw Left Side, then Renaissance Massive
, then Swamp King from Stone Love. "Wha! A big ting
dis!" I thought to myself. (Note to Splurt Promoters - I humbly apologise
for never making it before...your jam was nice!)
The music did it. Colin Hinds, Syndicate, Renaissance
and Stone Love all did a wonderful job with fantastic variety, but who
come in and wop dem all up? LEFT SIDE!!(?) Go deh Craig! He left jaws
all over the floor after this crazy dance contest between two bald head,
naked, painted, batty ridered chicks who could apparently dance the "leg"
off any man. Differently, I didn't know Left Side had it in him, and a
couple days later he told me that a bunch of people were telling him the
same thing. He seemed surprised. If y'all didn't know Left Side & Esco
are going to tek over in a minute, I reckon. And y'all can quote me on
that. Have you ever heard any of their self-produced remixes?? Or how
about Left Side deejaying with Wayne Marshall? Dem hype man, watch it!
Anyway, one of the chicks one the dance competition but I think the prize
should have gone to Left Side actually. Is him mash up the crowd.
The body painting added a great touch to the ambiance of the dance .
A few girls were actually topless with paint covering up their boobs.
Not me though. Heh heh. Maybe next time. The foam covered bodies walking
around was cool.
The jooze factor was high obviously due to the cheap cheap jooze .
The bar was flo-o-o-owing all night up until 4 or so. Then they stopped
selling tickets so I had to make friends with the bar supervisor who provided
me and my boys with limitless rum. The Magnum Tonic Wine cups added a
nice touch seeing as this was a D&G sponsored event
(all who know...laughable, don't it?).
The starlights were in tha house in full effect. Ward 21 mad bwoys Suku
and Rumblood , Wayne Marshall ,
Courtney Walsh, Fadda Pow & Rory, Carlos lef' him Cafe, Fahreinheit and
Flabba givin' 'em Headache! . Media was up in heah
...Lennox & Mark Stamp from X-News, David Casanova
from Cable Network Television and of course freelance shutterbug Valmore
flexing their media muscles.
Splurt Promoters, ya'll gotta holla at me. We can hook your events up
on the site fer sure!
