CHICKS, 1 PARTY, 2 OPINIONS
And it came
to pass on the 12th day of the 4th month in the year of Our Lord, two thousand
and one, that one sole selector, DJ Karim, tested his skills against the
reigning Uptown warriors, Coppershot, at the Battlefield of Waterloo, Peppers.
In attendance were the Knights of the Turntables, 'Crown Prince' Tony Matterhorn,
Squires Left Side & Esco, Master Lee, Sir Boyd, Vendetta, Prince Tafari
& Nextasy. Representing the Masters of the Microphone were Sir Ghost from
the House of Monster, Sir Sean-Paul & Squire Looga from the House of Dutty
alongside Lord Jeremy Harding of 2Hard, Court Jester Goofy & Wayne the
Earl of Marshall. It was a festive evening. So the story goes...
Mic:
Tru stop spillin my Heineken man!!!
Tru: Well move it from my foot!.. Ok
you have it now? Yuh ready?
Mic: Yeah man I'm Heinekened up.. Let's
go
Tru:
Pure
bashments yow! Karim is the MAN!!! I was astounded!
Mic: Wait nuh! What about Poisonous
Fluids?
Fyah
semi-frass: You get your idea together yet, yow?
Tru: Stay off the ganja man... you
weren't here!
Mic: Yeah you were in Czech Republic
or something. Heh heh
Tru:
Can we start...
Mic: K, Poisonous Fluids on Key Drive
in Liguanea. Had to support my boy Richie & Venom Entertainment y'know,
but the clash was waiting for Whaddat! Had to put up the banner early.
Tru: I couldn't mek it to dat still
but I am sure it did gwaan well still. But 'Uptown Clash' was off da hook!
I never even know Sizzla did have a sound - Prince Tafari. Wicked!
Mic: Yeah man, di one man that was
there from him sound did bad.
Tru:
Who else did play in the early warms?
Mic: When I got there (and the place
was fu@&in empty...I was worried for Brooks for a minute) the sound
that was playing was good still but get 'dem name (snicker)... NEXTASY!!
ummmmm... A little ORIGINALITY please...
Tru: They should be paying 'Next' royalties
for that!
Mic:
Moving on... Do you know I couldn't get a good picture of ONE girl? There
were like two girls there, me and you Tru!
Tru: (Laughs) I know right. It's almost
as if girls don't gravitate towards that kinda thing. Nevertheless I had
a great time. Di more man di betta!
Mic: Well
apparently NOT according to a couple of guys who signed our Guestbook....
Tru:
What the hell was Coppershot thinking mixing hip hop and reggae
in their first set?! Dem play some dancehall tune den in the middle of
it dem draw fi Missy Elliot "Get Your Freak On"... I was like... okaaay.
Mic: Well it seem to me like 'dem tek
the word 'CLASH' too lightly!
Tru: Trus' mi. Karim did ready fi 'dem.
Di man supposed to spen' a portion a money pon 'dem dub deh.
SOME
OF KING KARIM'S DUBS
Mystikal feat. Wayne Marshall & Bounty (Dangerous Dub - 3 the Hard
Way)
Beenie Man (Intro to murda Coppershot; Battyman G's)
1/2 doz. Elephant - (Special - Coppershot Must Die)
Bounty - (War Temporary, Lodge, Assassin)
Bunny General (Intro)
nuff new Wayne Marshall - Specials (Timebomb)
Sean Paul- (We nuh fear dem... dance done!)
Mic:
I think... no... is a fact dat from the 1st bar of Karim's 1st dub CopperShot
was six feet under the 1200's! I mean Karim counteract a Coppershot Sean
Paul WITH a Sean Paul. Mer-er-er-ercy!
Tru: I was dying! Sean Paul bredda
run Coppershot and dem ting deh reach him! So it go. The best man always
wins.
Mic: I think Jigga and Karim should
have a dub only clash. Mano a mano. Dat woulda different still true di
whole Coppershot 'gainst Karim one kinda soften up di vibe especially since
Karim ONE murda dem.
Tru: So dat nuh show yuh seh di man
wicked?! And when dem a try t'row wud pon him Karim jus' draw fi di Bunny
General! Place MASH UP!!!
Mic: Yeah yuh dun know! Him neva even
need di Bunny. Him shoulda save dat fi Matterhorn!
Tru:
The
sad part 'bout it though is Peppers usually have a bigger crowd on a normal
Friday night! I guess niggaz wasn't trying to pay 4 bills to listen to
Karim and Coppershot. Their loss!
Mic: I think the bulk of their target
market was gone to Ochi for Easter weekend already. I think they were trying
for a session vibe.
Tru: I guess. It was a good crowd though
Mic: Yes, a pleasant and welcomed
change. But of course police was up in there trying to shut shit off. They
suceeded for a mere 45 seconds and about 2 dozen people left but yuh dun
know how it go...
Tru: Dem couldn't silence di burial!!!
Mic: And dem was lovin' it too. (Big
up Scarlett, Morgan, and Tony *BAP! BAP!* (Yuh dun know "Special Unit Babylon")
Tru:
I can't hate on Coppershot though. Dem did come up in the second and third
rounds. Whole heap a Wayne Marshall... 'Dem try!
Mic: Well by that time I was on my
10th Heineken true my film did done an' ting. I had come to my conclusion
already, although CopperShot hip-hop did sweet me still.
Tru:
So that's it then. It was off the hook. I enjoyed myself. Closest thing
to LaRoose uptown.
Mic: Yuh see it. Vibes did nice. Kudos
to King Karim and an 'A' for effort to Coppershot.
Tru:
Good. So what about 'Poisonous Fluids' now? That's where we
did go after right?
Mic: Yes. And since you didn't come
in you wouldn't have known it was really good. Everybody was completely
trashed!
Tru: Yeah... when we reach, people
were leaving cuz police did lock it down.
Mic: Well, for their freshman attempt
it came off good.
Tru:
A'right cool. So that's a wrap. Peace.
Mic: One!
