Mic: K let's go.
Tru: Hol' on a minute. What party
we doing again?
Fyah: 1991. Where do I start?
Mic: A'right. This is a toughie.
First ting den. The crowd was great.
Fyah: What exactly do you mean by
the crowd was great.
Mic: I mean looking through the
pictures, everybody seemed to have a really good time!
Tru: I'm not going to front, because
I did enjoy it. However, the audio levels were extremely poor.
Fyah: Because they only had one
speaker box.
Tru: And they kept turning it down
more due to di Babylon.
Mic: Well, I noticed UPON entering
that the sound was very low. I asked Scott about it, and him tell me
bout police and ten calls before 12. Well, maybe we should teach them
a thing or two about "palming" properly? *snicker*
Fyah: I'm saying, because I can't
tell you the last time I went to a party that was locked down because
of police.
Tru: Fi real yo. But I think that
the music was good though. They really took me back, yuh know? And I
really appreciate the effort.
Fyah: I thought the music was predictable.
It's been better at other parties that they've had. Don't get me wrong,
I did enjoy the music, but it's been better in the past.
Mic: Can we say Arif Cooper? No
disrespect to Coppershot, but Arif really have the 80's/90's vibe down
pat, and everybody knows that. He's the 80's/90's King.
Fyah: He's definitely a key element.
Tru: But Coppershot did do well
yo. Dem play nuff nice old old songs. All some old Bounty too yuh know!
Yeh man dem did bad.
Mic: No doubt. But can I just ask
what the HELL happened with this dude cussin' at the sound? What was
that?? Music all lock off fi all 10 minutes yow!! But anyway, it was
rectified and all was not lost.
Fyah:
Nuff people did trickle in inna di after hours.
Tru: Apparently there was a Wolmers
thing at Mas Camp and Dutty Cup had performed there earlier, I think
with Wayne Marshall as well, I'm not sure, but irregardless alot of
them came from there to 1991, like Assassin and a couple other deejays.
Mic: Like Zumjay and of course Sean
Paul & Looga.
Fyah: Zum zum zum!
Tru: Anyway the bar...Can somebody
kick over the person who thought that one bar would suffice. And a bar
of that size? And how ram was that damn place?
Fyah: I don't think they expected
to have so many people.
Mic: Well, 'memba seh 1991 is always
OFF SEASON, so iz true. I don't think they expected the masses to pour
in like that.
Tru: That's very very true.
Fyah: It reminded alot of those
old HMV parties on Paddington Terrace.
Mic: Millsborough...
Fyah: A backyard kinda vibe.
Tru: Remember those parties yo?
And the bar was like two desk together with some cardboard covering
dem? Yuh dun know, fully retro. Dem did definitely keep up with the
theme.
Mic: Fo sho. There was alot of whinin'
& grindin' going on.
Fyah: There was alot more couples
than usual dancing and stuff. Gettin' down to the lovers rock..SANCHEZ!!..I
love dat.
Tru: Yeh, but what really irks me
is inappropraite whinin'. Like when all some gun tune a play, man have
dem girl a girt dem up and a grind dem out. That's just me still, but
yeh it was tough.
Mic:
Agreed. But, the bar...It was certainly ram but after a couple
rounds, it did ease off considerably.
Tru: I can tell you one ting. I
never haffi go di bar so much still. Caw di rum & coke deh! Dem did
well strong. Dun know, iz like you a beat a two juice and jus' settle.
Fyah: Well, luckily I never had
to go near the bar. BUT, I did have to go near the bathroom unfortunately.
I don't even know what to say.
Mic: Well, mi nuh know nuttin' bout
dat...should I say thank God?
Fyah: Absolutely. In any case dem
haffi do better than that. You can't have one bathroom for all these
chicks.
Tru: When I saw that long line of
girls, and the one bathroom? I was just like "it's all about waitin'
'til I go home."
Mic: Well, this is just it! The
last time they had a 1991 there, it was the shit because like mi seh,
it was off season and not so much people was there. It was great!
Tru: Trus' mi. I went to the last
2 1991's and they were great! That's mainly why I did decide to go to
this one! But, I'm wondering why they never had it at that venue in
New Kingston with ample facilities like bathrooms and parking and space?
Fyah: You live and you learn. Hopefully
they've seen their mistakes and know what to do better next time.
Mic: Like keep it off season. I
think the cozy vibes as opposed to the session vibes is more 1991 style.
Fyah: That's true.
Tru: This one error is not going
to make me lose fully offa dem still. I've never thrown a party and
I know it must be no picnic.
Mic: HA! Yuh tellin' me!
Fyah: It's a learning process. So
it stay.
Mic: Well, big up Scott and Simon
for a valiant effort. Dem deal wid di people dem good and it was obvious
that they were disappointed with the outcome regarding the po-po and
sound et al. Dat's it. One!
Tru: Yes, I'll see you at the next
1991. Peace!
Fyah: Likkle More.
