Sean's
immense popularity in New York and heavy rotation on WQHT-
Hot97FM made him a 'must have' on the Summer Jam 2000's
roster. As the first Jamaican artist ever billed on the show's
line-up this is a noteworthy accomplishment. Since his performance,
he has piqued the interest of international record labels. This
is evidenced by his collabo Money Jane with the
Toronto-based rapper, Kardinal Offishall on Universal
Canada.

WHERE'S THE BEEF?!
|
| His
recent falling out with Mr. Vegas is one topic we wanted to avoid
since it has been exhausted by the press. But we had to get the
real deal from Sean, not because wi 'faaas' but because inquiring
minds want to know about his current relationship with Vegas. Peep
this…
W:
The press has been very diplomatic about it citing managerial
differences as the reason for the conflict. Can you talk about your
current relationship with Vegas?
SP: There
is none. None whatsoever. The diplomacy was done a lot on my part…There
was a couple tings dat did happen between me and him dat wasn't
no big ting but right now wi jus' nah link…Me an' him was bredrin
fi a while and movin and parrin, write tune…Right now is a different
ting an people seh is money but I would say is ego. Him was always
down-to-earth with me. I would see him behave f*ck up to people…but
him would look out for me. Him is a yute weh move fast...nowadays
him move how him a move an' me nuh bodda inna no followin' wid 'im. |

EASY MISTA CAT
|
| Saying
Sean Paul's sound is reminiscent of Super
Cat is nothing new to the avid dancehall fan. He explained
that every producer who has ever heard him thinks that the way in
which he writes and delivers his tunes is just like the deejay's.
"A lot of people say to me 'how does that mek yuh feel- don't you
want your own identity?'…Me's mi own yute still. When Don Yute did
jus come out fi 'im vibes did sound like Shabba, so did Bounty Killer…
but everybody evolve into dem own ting, everybody had someone that
they looked (up) to." He is not bothered by the comparisons
because he admires Super Cat and they have a great rapport up to
this day. There are even plans to do a collaboration with Cat on
his Sean's next album.
So to all you haters out there, ain't no bad vibes between Super
Cat and Sean Paul, period.
Sean's
on stage performances have not received much critical acclaim locally.
When he performs abroad he gets more reaction from the crowd, he explained.
This is a side of the artist that he agrees he has to work on. On
one occasion Sean Paul was criticized by an audience member for only
performing old material. Obviously affected by the comment, Sean decided
to prove them wrong."We always…struggling
to see what it is I mus' do onstage…I went to Sumfest one year and
did a bag a new tune…and everybody was like why yuh never do your
hit tunes?" Admittedly, the Jamaican audience is the most
difficult to please but with time we are positive that Sean will be
able to give stellar performances with the confidence of a true pro. |

DUTTY YEAH
|
| |
| You
can't listen to a Sean Paul tune without hearing some reference
to or mention of Dutty Cup, the crew he considers "family".
We ask Sean if Dutty Cup still an entity. "To
me it is. Because dem yute deh will always Be Dutty Cup, even if
it change and more people came in, they will always be Dutty."
W:
Who is Dutty Cup?
SP: Kid
Kurup, Looga, Mossy, me, Chicken and Daddigan. I remember being
in the van…going to the studio and tryin' to voice and ting. So
dem yute deh… I was always a loner …that was the first time in my
life I ever considered my self part of a "crew".

MY BROTHER…MY FRIEND
|
Experience
is life's greatest teacher. Past experiences have made Sean very
selective about the persons he looks to for support and inspiration.
His face lights up when he speaks about his younger brother, Jason
"Jiggzagula" Henriques, of Coppershot fame.
Sharing the same interest in music, they have always had a good
relationship and they have become even closer in recent years.
"He is my inspiration when I do certain
things. Him build some riddim…he's a computer wizard, compared
to me… an' him show me tings like dat. I learn a lot from him,
as my younger brother, an' I look up to dat".
Sean is mad
cool.
