DELANO, THE SEX SYMBOL...THAT GUY WITH THE EYE PATCH

W: A lot Renaissance's die-hard fans are from uptown, and mostly women. You're considered a sex symbol in a lot of ways. We've heard women go on and on about "Delano, Delano…" Do you think that the aye patch adds some sort of mystique? Enhances the image, made you stand out more?
D:
Everything happens for a reason… I was in some sort of way popular before but the patch really 'help' it… I played in Bermuda about 3 or 4 years ago and half of the crowd came in eye patches! In Japan the same thing happened.
W: If you could go back in time and change the outcome of the accident, and everything that came along with it, would you?
D: Yeah. The older you get the more your body deteriorates and there is added pressure on one eye. I still have to get regular check ups to ensure that this eye is ok so that is additional stress thinking about that. But I use music to get over all that…
W: Ever thought of using the eye patch as merchandise, like with Renaissance logos?
D: Oh boy…that would be going a bit overboard!

DI DUTTY LINK

W: Do you feel that Renaissance helped to make Dutty Cup ?
D: Well I can be proud to say Sean Paul. I was introduced to him and he just sat down on the record box and deejayed for me. I was like "what the hell". Record it right away! (Sings) Bus di black bottle wid di red pon di top…! From dat … They have their other sounds as well like Coppershot, but I know we played a big part.

Gone are the Ambassadors, Apocalypses, Legends, and HMVS, from back in the day (for all you young heads…these were popular uptown discos/sound systems in the late eighties, early nineties). We ask Delano if he feels that Renaissance had anything to do with their downfall. To him, Renaissance didn't really contribute to their downfall, per se, however, clashing with Legend at Ruins did contribute to Renaissance's popularity and increased the ratings. HMV was another very popular disco that monopolized the uptown market but eventually fizzled. Delano is not sure how this happened, but he believes that it may have been due to their interests lying in other areas (other careers or jobs perhaps) " I don't know if it had to do with the people who were in the sound, and whether or not they were directly die-hearted sound people," he says. " This is the only thing that I do…this is what feed me…it's probably not what feed 'dem. (so) maybe they wouldn't tek it as seriously as I do."
