This was a great tribute to the late great Bob Marley. The
performances were for the most part outstanding. I loved
the I-Threes. Dem did wicked! It was cool to see some of
Bob's contemporaries on stage.
Fyah: I wouldn't call
it the greatest tribute I've ever been to for the Gong.
I was expecting something much better, bigger, greater.
Mic: The promoter tried
her best to put on a bashment for Bob but it wasn't promoted
enough. It was promoted more like a dance than a concert.
But it was wicked same way... just not packed. Bob Andy,
Ken Booth.. BAP!BAP!
Tru: I think the intentions
were good but like alot of things this year they have been
scaled down... in terms of patrons and promotion... I don't
know why but it makes you wonder why more emphasis wasn't
placed on such an important day.
Fyah: I just felt that
for a man who has helped to put a face out there for Jamaica
I expected something huge to celebrate the man's life.
Tru: Most definitely
Mic: It is surprising
that that was the only major event going on for Bob!
Fyah: EXACTLY.
Mic: ...and that they
didn't get more help putting it on!!!!
Fyah: ...and the woman
who did this particular event can't be expected to represent
for the millions of lives that were touched by the man.
Tuff Gong slapped their logo on it but I suspect that this
is a result of all the success the event has found.
Tru:
So guys, who stood out performance-wise?
Mic: Javaughn, Bob Andy,
Rastareens. Those performers stick out in my head, and the
I-Threes but more because they looked so uncomfortable on
stage. By the time they were on, police were already backstage.
Tru: Warrior King was
wicked... way too short though like most of the performances.
The I-Threes were great too and I liked Bob Andy. I think
that was the first time I eva see him perform live. I was
impressed- dem man deh a a true star.
Mic: aaaah yes, Warrior
King - he is a beautiful man (just released him album by
the way). Natural Black too! Geezum... mash it up. Lady
G, Chuck Fender, Culture... everybody did very well!
Fyah: Dean Frazer backed
the I-Threes, that was great.
Tru: So why you think
the ladies looked uncomfortable on stage? I was standing
really close to the stage and I think they were just working
with the time they had.
Mic: I heard the they
were rushed on stage. That they never even got to change
into their stage clothes. Remember the last half dozen performances
lasted for 5 minutes a piece at the most because the show
was being shut down... at 4am
Tru: OK. Well, I liked
their performance. Back to Warrior King though. He is going
to do very well and I think he sealed it for me when he
called his "empress" on to the stage and sing "No Real Man...."
HOw sweeeeet!!!
Fyah: Yep.. he's smitten.
Very romantic- yuh nuh find no deejay- ras or baldhead a
do dat!
Mic: Memba seh Cocoa
Tea, Ninjaman and Sizzla were backstage.
Tru: Yeah I was looking
forward to Sizzla still, but he didn't perform unfortunately.
Fyah: UNFORTUNATELY
