Happy
Halloween - if dat's your ting, yuh zi mi. *cough* First thing
I would like to say is... the scariest thing
about Halloween 2001 was Friday night. Couple things was going
on. Mello Vibes at Mas Camp - which apparently was
the SHIZNIZZLE. Kurt and Arif always provide...read
Spliff's review here
I heard Spoogie's Epiphany Too
next door to Asylum was hoppin' and Asylum
was packed as usual.
Then there was Lifestyles Halloween
Party.
Well,
it was raining, seen? And, umm...well...I never end up doing
anything. Bed Rock & Pillow Jam *wink*.
So,
that was Friday. Saturday was great. The night started off
with a POETRY & JAM SESSION at
Grosvenor Gallery, 1 Grosvenor Rd. Trust me, I
have to give my props to Douglas
for a creative, well thought out and very well
promoted event. This being the first one, and being so successful
- I expect to be attending another one very soon. Count Whaddat?Com
in on the promotions, seen? Aight...
As
I digress...On to NIGHTMARE
at the Hilton.
We
reach late. Late like 2am. I was very disappointed to see
so many people in regular street gear. I guess not much has
changed over the years. Not like the dropping off of the dress
code at Sweet Sixteens (they were Black Tie once...yesss).
Ever since I've presented myself to this somewhat petty social
circuit, there have always been people just too cool for costume,
yaknowhutamsayn? I suppose there are those who have outgrown
it, or have just never been into the whole masquerade, but
come now people - would it kill you to don a simple mask or
something? Whateva's cleva...the party was jumpin!!
To
tell you the truth...I hardly expected it to have such a good
turn out! Well, that was until after Friday night. I mean,
because of the rain of course. Normally, for years, Nightmare
has been a huge Halloween bashment at Caymanas and up the
Valley back in the day. Usually an all-inclusive, I was disappointed
that the promoters chose this -quite frankly- dumb venue.
A ballroom? Come on! It occured to me last year after Big
Life got kicked out the Talk of the Town restaurant at Pegasus
and was forced to have their session in a ballroom. Remember??
That was TERRIBLE! Hot and stuffy. Maaaan!
But,
really....this wasn't THAT BAD. The nice likkle vibe mek up
for the ballroom ends, and the bar was SO easy to get at.
Juice in a Jiffy - and you just KNOW how we love that.
Just please...Mrs. Phillipson, Bobby...don't do it again.
Bring back the original Nightmare vibe, nuh? I know is very
very expensive to put on a big dance, but the Party People
dependin' on you. Y'alls foundation, DUN KNOW!
Another
gripe...I have to. WAH ALLA DEM PICKNEY A DO IN DEH?
Jeeeeeesum!!! I think I saw an 8 year old in deh. No lyin.
Weh dem parents dem deh? Dem know seh dem baby girl a dress
up in some likkle skimpy tings out a road til all kinda hours
in di morning? Something
has got to be done about this insane population of severely
under-aged party goers! ID nah go work. Can't the promoters
just use their best judgement and turn back the kids? They
kill the vibe man. Oglin and standin up vibeless and nervous
and ting. Cha-a-aaa. Nix dat man.
If
anybody under 16 is reading this...take some advice
from a veteran (I was just like you once)...IF you INSIST
on going out to an adult event, please loosen up and try to
relax a little. You could try to make friends with some older
people. That way, in the future they might let you tag along
with them on a flex and maybe you'll be able to fit in a little
better. Second thing - DO NOT (very important) OVER DO the
DRINKING and the SHMOKIN'. Getting TWISTED at such a young
age amongst a slew of adults is NOT CUTE. Girls - go easy
on the make up and next to nothing gears. You don't want to
attract the wrong kind of admirer. And boys - don't hit on
older and taller girls. They don't like you.
Alright..that's
enough.
Nightmare
was a blast! I had alot of fun, and the mix of
people was good. Everybody seemed to have a really good time
- costume or no costume. It's unfortunate that the whole Halloween
vibe wasn't there this year, and I hope to God that y'all
are reading this right now in high spirits - safe & sound...
NEXT YEAR Y'ALL WEAR COSTUMES!!!
One.
