of Trends' Concepts, the weekend
of January 18th was Whaddat?com's
first time in Atlanta, Georgia. The
air was bone-numbing but the vibes were just right. Trends and
(aliases aside) Steve, Lawrence, Debbie, Andre, Rachel and Karen
showed me what ATL was all about. This
is Trends : 101 - The Review
of Infatuation. 101 pictures
for your viewing pleasure, and of course the write up - "How
to Party like a Yardie in PHATlanta". |

First
night out we went to a place called Karma for Island Soul.
A 3-floor club-type joint Downtown Atlanta. On Thursdays,
it's all about Roots, Rock & Reggae, baby. It was bizarre,
all the ATLiens bouncing to Buju and Beres. I say that because
(if you don't know already) the ATL is not like Miami. By
that I mean by the looks of the event and the patrons, I
was expecting everybody in there to be - well - a Yardie.
Sorry I don't have much to go by apart from that week in
Flatbush years ago and a few trips to Florida, but you know
in NY & Miami, it's pure Jamaicans and ex-patriots...
in Atlanta, they all American. The general look at Karma
was locks and Timbs and big jackets - very The Roots. It
was cool. Big up my friend deh in the leather designer tam
(I recognised him from pics I took of him
at Sumfest). |

| After
Island Soul we went to the Peacock
club on Martin Luther King Blvd.
for Gal Farm. Wooooweee! Dance
- straight. I don't know who was spinning but dem sound like dem
jump right off the plane into the dance. Not only were they playing
all the current Dancehall but it come een like dem lef' JA in '95
and fi dem record collection come with dem and stick pon di turntable
dem. Rockers cyaan dun. As for me, I stuck by the pool table all
night and got my hustle on until it was time to go back to the hotel.

| Infatuation
was an excellent event. I didn't check a coat, so mi
nuh know nuttin bout the coat check people did a complain 'bout,
but henyway...
The
vibe was live from the second I stepped in! Crazy ATLiens in their
winter jackets bouncin to 50 Cent. That weekend was the
first I heard "In The Club"
- sick! Despite the vibe, the atmosphere was all very new to me
so I just chilled in a corner and took it in for bout 15 before
scoping the rest of the club. Got the juice flowin - Bacardi.
No Appleton *silence*..........
But nuff Respec' to Dre who took care of me that weekend - made
sure I was cool wherever we were.
WAGGY
T! J-J-Jeeeeezam! Fully dun di place. I haven't been
to an event where Waggy T. played since 'bout '93 round there.Waggy
T and House Arrest used to play all the time in Jamaica in the
early nineties... those were good times... *sigh*
EH!?? Ok - Waggy T - Two thumbs up! CODE
RED come wid some fire boiling up the Aquarius. I have
never seen them in that element before and I - yes I - was impressed.
Dem seh the people never too like the Remix dem but by that they
meant the Americans not READY fi dem. All Yard man - kickup! Say
YES - MAD! Next up was Black
Talon. I told them after their set they wouldn't love
me after this review but I'm going to take it easy on them seeing
as there was nuff Trini in the house. Soca - YUCK! Oldies
in Atlanta? Hell no. But they rocked the crowd... they did. Big
up Black Talon. |

| Saw
couple people I haven't seen in years! Prendy,
Chris Barnett - big up! Apart from Chris breddrin gettin'
a little insane on me when I took his pic (which was sorted out...
we drank to digital technology), Infatuation
was a Whaddat Approved, Stamped and sealed Bashment.
I will be back. Large up Debbie (JE)
- the Ultimate hostess, Rachel
(Rogue), Lawrence (Johno), Steve
(Rush), Trendz, Dre, Karen,
Code Red Family and a special big up to the gentleman with the
white bimma that took me to the airport after the party...
thanks man. I know y'all busted your asses
to get me on that flight. Much appreciated. |
