| From
countless e-mails, comments and phonecalls, it is evident that
Fully Loaded 2002 was not the most enjoyed event for the summer.
From what I hear, it was the most disappointing for most people.
I, on the other hand thought it was great despite the schedule being
off a tad which resulted in a couple of the booked acts missing
out - namely Mr. Fully Loaded Tony Matterhorn and Bounty Killer.
Here, we shall examine what went wrong, but first, a run-down of
the night's proceedings (from I reach at the Hellshire main road
at 7:35pm): |
| |
| Traffic
started from the bridge but was running pretty smooth and I parked
inside at exactly 8:30pm. Jamz 98 kept me company in line.
8:34:
Essence, Cash Money, Dilemma and the girl sound, 360,
had all played before my arrival. Leroy Sibbles' sound - Melody
One had just come off as I stepped in.
8:45: Nuffy is emceeing a
fashion show on stage.
8:50: Razz & Biggy kicked
off the main sound show. They did alright but played too much
new hip hop and dancehall. As an early and young sound trying
to make a break in the biz, they should have an original repertoire
to throw down at events like the Loaded series.
21:09: One Love from Italy
was up next, and they tore the beach down with a fantastic selection
of original dubs and dancehall/reggae classics.
21:20: Spragga is introduced
as host.
21:26: Easy Coppershot caw dem come fi mash it up. Jigzagula was
all over the stage while Sean and Frigi backed him up.
21:40: Young artists step
up. Most notably, Stretch - a young "farinized" rapper
with the most commanding stage presence I have ever seen in a
"baby" artist.
21:48: Teflon was next and
held the crowd til the next set of deejays - the Asylum deejays
who had aerosol cans lit throughout the audience.
10:30: Vendetta hits the stage
next and wild out with remix.
10:55: Zumjay, Determine and
Wickerman gave us a short and sweet show of their latest hits.
10:59: One sound from New
Jersey name Xtasy come on and the mic man tell one girl in the
audience 'bout har parts and the crown boo and clap dem.
11:04: Real Eediat hit the
stage.. his name is Real Eediat outta New York now. Why, Lord?
11:08: Concorde fom New York
came on probably thinking they would put Xtasy to shame but instead
in the middle of their round they played was "My Neck, my
Back, lick my pu**y and my crack". What country did they
think they were in?
11:35: Skjuice steps up and
of course mashed up the place with his crazy antics which included
splits and some strange dances. He was on for half hour.
12:01: Danny English, EggNog,
Desperado, Madd Anju, Assassin, Red Square, Spragga, Lexxus and
Vegas permormed briefly. The whole thing lasted less than 15 minutes.
12:16: Leftside & Esco
step up.
Their performance is interrupted by an emergency on the beach.
A girl has been badly hurt and the ambulance cannot get to leave.
Their performance lasted less than 5 minutes, but apparently by
choice.
12:22: Black Chiney make their
way on stage and proceeded to take the title as the Fully Loaded
DJs from Matterhorn according to many including Barry G. Interestingly,
SupaDups informed Whaddat?com that their scheduled spot was actually
10:45-11:15. The schedule was off and Solid reps were worried.
12:55: Ja Rule, Ashanti and
Charli Baltimore make their way to stage amidst a massive entourage
which included the scheduled host Leon who apparently decided
Spragga would do better than he. (Doug E. Fresh was in fact NOT
in Jamaica. He was in NY). At this point, the fence holding the
general populus back came down and all hell broke loose - on stage.
Ashanti immediately stole the hearts in the crowd of men and women
alike with her string of hits. Ja Rule... what can I say but HOLLAAAA!!
Rap Thugette Charli Baltimore joined him for "Down Ass Bitch"
after which they alighted the stage and went back to their tent.
1:16: Tony Matterhon is side
stage getting his records together.
1:24: DJ Khaled from Miami
holds the fort down with a slew of custom beats and tracks.
1:45: Bounty Killer and Bling
Dawg hold the microphone. Bounty exits the stage minutes after
in a huff after complaining about the "bum-rushing"
on stage.
1:51: Elephant Man and Kip
Rich, decked out in Baseball gear, batting helmets and all are
jined by Wayne Marshall on stage much to the delight of the 10,000
strong crowd.
1:55: Moses Davis aka. Beenie
Man finds his way on stage. Although he was not booked to perform
at Fully Loaded, he let go 2 tune before Spragga suggested that
The Killer comes on stage to bury the hatchet with The Doctor.
1:58: Members of the Jamaica
Constabulary Force alert the sound and the artists on deck that
they will be turning off the sound immediately in keeping with
standing Sound Law. Beenie Man pleads for some more time and continues
his performance.
1:59: The music is turned
off and Beenie Man encourages the crowd to "clap a riddim"
for him. they comply.
2:00:
Beenie man and the Superintendant catch up in a heated argument
and the microphone is forceably unplugged by same sup. For the
next two minutes a hail of bottles fly towards and over the stage.
Several gunshots ring out and there is a mid-sized stampede.
2:17: the main venue of Fort
Clarence is practically empty as patrons rush to their cars. Traffic
is at a complete standstill in and out of the main parking area.

Traffic is cleared on the outside and the slow and steady
drive home begins.

The
above comment is simply a perfect example of what everybody
has been saying. "The
traffic too bad, it tek 3 hours to get in, it too ram, mi
did too far from the stage, too much sound deh pon it, it
lock off too early and why dem lock it off so early if so
much people did deh deh and so much sound a go play, Sharon
Burke is dis and Sharon Burke is dat..."
blah blah ray ray.
Traffic
was a problem from the get-go. Everybody KNOWS that trafiic
is going to be a problem! Why complain afterwards if you
knew it's going to be like that anyway. This is year decided
to reach a little earlier than usual and traffic held me
for less than an hour. I had planned on getting there at
7pm and I'm sure if wouldn't have taken half that time to
get in. Why not get there earlier to avoid the traffic?
Next
ting - I am confident that everybody is aware that there
has been a (however ludicrous) law implemented and now heavily
enforced that requires sound systems to lock down at 2am.
Everybody also knows that Fully Loaded always books a bag
of sound - that Fully Loaded is the arena that makes or
breaks new sounds, and if a yound sound gets booked on Fully
Loaded it's a big ting. If all of you know that, along with
the 2am sound law, why di RASS oonu reaching there so late?
Look
on it this way - Fully Loaded was scheduled to begin at
12 noon while starting the sound ting at 4pm. The main event
is supposed to start at around 6:30pm and end promptly at
2am. Of course if nobody is there, the show is not going
to start on time! This one 2 hours off schedule. People
still complain that it finished early despite knowing that
it should have started much earlier!
Suppose
this year Fully Loaded had started on "time".
That would mean that y'all who reach in at midnight would
have missed the bulk of the show! You would have missed
Black Chiney, Khaled AND Murder Inc! Of course I am just
playing Devil's Advocate. Who really going to reach Fully
Loaded while daylight is still apparent? Well, maybe we
should all consider this for next year so there won't be
any complaints, or any bottle throwing or people "not
getting their money's worth". |

| Sharon
and Solid Agency should also consider not necessarily changing
venues, but managing traffic better. I saw ONE policeman on my
way down Fort Clarence strip and he was riding past me on a bike.
Nothing was being done about double parking or flow management.
Next year, as I suggest every year (take a hint from promoters
at Caymanas) and have a line of police all the way down the strip
handing out tickets!!

the

I touched in
about 6:30 and the crowd was quite good, essence was playing at
the time that did a good job. The crowd came rolling in about
7:30 and that’s when I knew the party was about to start, and
that it was going to be GREAT. Nuffy who started the show as MC
had the vibes going from the beginning, before Spragga came and
took over as MC, which was good, as he did several tunes in between
introducing the sound systems. The deejay did one particular tune,
which he said would not be released until 2007 due to the power
of the lyrics. The deejay also managed to maintain some order
on the stage when it seemed the situation threatened to become
uncomfortable.
When it did...
I was simply upset, not only because the police abruptly ended
the show but because Mr. Fully Loaded himself Tony Matterhorn
did not even touch the stage, ah mean the man come with nuff dub
plates just for loaded and never get to done di place. All in
all loaded was a great event, apart from the overloading back
stage due to the cutting of the fence, and the usual traffic,
it has certainly been the best session I have been to in a while.
If you missed it, bwoy you missed quite an experience.
