| On
the drive down, we were listening to the event's kick-off on Zip
103 FM *plug plug*.
Johnny Cool and Liquid were holding it down for Ziponians
all across the island spinning chart topping hip-hop from days
of new and days gone by. I was getting psyched since so little
has been happening in town lately and I had never actually been
inside the latest
addition to "The 'Ville" chain.
Big up to
Robert Howard - Margaritaville MoBay's Entertainment Manager
- who had our arrival on alert. Outside, the line was thick but
inside things were just warming up. Unfortunately, my battery
died immediamente so I had to run to the car. On the way out I
passed RAS Promotions' Soloman Sharpe and 4 members of
the Desert Storm family - Demarco, Demiggs, Clue and
his manager, Skane. Double time to the car, grabbed the charger
and headed back to the club.
The headliner's
arrival must have bumped up the vibe inside. It was screaming
when I got back in, and I took a walk-thru. People were dancing
- really dancing and using the dancefloor to it's full advantage.
I was glad I went. Something new man, trus mi! New faces, new
surroundings... A moment to big up Margaritaville Ochi. If
you haven't been, go. It's great.
The moment
everybody was there for came. Clue stepped up and kicked
off his set with "Gimme Di Light" which
of course got everybody pumped for the remainder of his spot.
I wasn't particularly impressed by his segment. His skills a seh
one, don't get it twisted, but I think I will speak for most everybody
in there by saying that we were expecting a fire blazing round
by arguably the hottest DJ around right now. For one.. and I was
confused as to why this wasn't implemented - there was no reverb
or echo on the mic and I would think and hope that this is a stipulation
for Clue's playing since it's something of a trademark for him.
Maybe it threw him off cuz he wasn't pleased with something, or
maybe him just get more hype from farin crowd, or maybe I was
expecting a more "Sound vibe".. dubs, remixes etc. Regardless
the crowd did love it and him do him work.
I was glad
to see nuff a di Zip family in the house to support the cause.
Mahogany, Wild Child, Preston... Big up Zip yuh dun know.
Big up Demiggs and Demarco too who were mad cool
(catch them all in RocAFellas movie, State Property) and
of course di whole a di Margaritaville Fam. Bless!
