For
the second time since May, Whaddat?com touched Miami for the
staging of "Another Hybrid
Event".
This time around the third in the Blink
series - The All White Edition
- was my mission at hand.
Before
that, though, you know I need to relay the full hundred on Mic
in Miami PART 2! So... I got in at 5pm on
Saturday and headed straight to SoBe with my self-appointed
Miami sparrin P - Kingahs.
Apparently, the first order of business was to get some liquor
in my system. First stop - Wet Willy's on the Beach. What a
rass ting... 'bout 20 different Daiquiri flavours or some number
to that effect. Eventually, I ordered a banana and something
daiquiri - small - for 5 bucks not a bad deal. We had to jet
half way through to meet some friends who had been unable to
fight the crowd at Willy's. I questioned whether or not I could
take my half an alcoholic beverage out of the club, thinking
the rules were the same as in Toronto.
Apparently not (much
to my surprise, in '95 after being in T-Dot for under a week,
I was seriously wilded up by a bartender when I asked him why
di *&@! a club wouldn't have plastic cups to put my rum
in when I wanted to leave). So
merrily we sauntered, as I savoured the hype of the infamous
South Beach, sipping a Dirty Monkey
at dusk.

We
made the choice to go out that night instead of cooling
my brain, which was what the original itinerary suggested.
I knew that if I showed up at "Stages" (Absolute's
Bubbles), I would be endlessly harassed about the pics.
Well actually, I was off-duty that night, but my good friend,
Gibbo did the honours
and I have 40 pics for every dollar I spent to go inside.
Look out for those in a couple days.
Sunday
- Blink Day
So
I had my outfit for Blink planned and packed from Saturday
morning. In case you haven't caught on yet, this event called
for all white gears. From what I understand, theme parties
are not the norm in Miami as they are in Kingston, so it
promised to be pretty interesting. The first and last all
white party I went to (well, except for Utopia and Frenchmen..
aha.. ha.. ha - get it?) was Glow up in Norbrook Mountain
in January (here, in Jamaica). Almost everybody wore white
except for just a couple people. I was expecting the same
response at Blink, unaware of how people stay in Miami.
So,
you know I'm going to give it to who never wear white! |

Yes,
I am even going to call names - Andre! Simon! Tina from Priory
(thanks for the rum eventhough you were wearing mustard), Colin,
YOHANCE!, Julia, the policeman... Ok, so obviously I am joking
but fi real - oonu stink eeh? Like oonu a rebel 'gainst that
terrible theme party system. Sometimes going against the grain
is no fun, yuhzimi.

Well,
my outfit was very bashy but I was disappointed that save
2 people, everyone was unaware what the "House
Arrest" on my T-Shirt was. Well, to school you
young people... Back in the early nineties, House Arrest
was a sound/promotional team that consisted of Damian Thompson
who started HMV after House Arrest dun out. They had the
wickedest parties with peeps like 2 In a Room and Waggy
T.. like dat. ILL. My first parties. *sigh*
(TIMMY - Link me, star!)
SO
BLINK!....
To
be honest with you all... I was pretty bored at the beginning.
Not because it wasn't a good party... it was kickin', and
I wasn't really bored.. more like bewildered. When I went
off on my own in the jungle that is Big
Fish full of Miami party peeps, I was at a loss.
It was almost like when Whaddat?com started...shy with the
camera... except I didn't know anybody around me. So I was
like 'the new kid' which meant I didn't know who and who
wanted their picture taken. But once I saw KAKALI
(sp?), he introduced me to a bunch of people
who were juiced up pretty good and ready to pose off for
Whaddat. Then this really cool chick, Shauna,
came over by the bar where we were getting merry and started
taking pics for me ("cuz I
have the same camera" she says). Then peeps
started poppin' up all over, like Christina
Gooden and Moji
(sp?) and WARDAWG. Lawd
Geezas! Bear vibes after that. Nuff shout out mi deh pon
cuz it's Miami you know? Dem people deh welcome me to the
party scene. Trus' mi.
Of
course, cyaan leave out Hybrid
and FourDeep crew cuz
they's the ones that made alla this happen, yuhzimi. Basically
as I reach the session, Dru Lord
get up on the mic and bus' up him new tune, VIP
(that's it you hearin in the background.. if you're not
turn up your speaks and hit refresh). It's a shame
Nikky B. couldn't join him up there but yuh
dun know.. next time (hang in there babes. Tune a go bus'
big and you a go catch back a vibes fi Sean yuhzimi). So
Kev dude thanks again.. next time The
Triumvirate a go infiltrate. |
