| Nevertheless
I was way too tired to panic over all this. So, being told
the party would kick off at around 9pm, I decided to have
a quick nap before getting ready. That nap turned into 2
hours of blissful sleep. I woke up to find 3 new voicemails
on my phone and about 6 missed calls. I was late!! Really
late!! I thought real quick about what to wear, and had
my iron free outfit out ready to go. I took a quick shower,
then called my bredrin "Trini" and told him I would be leaving
in 20 minutes, cool. Setting an all-time new record, I was
ready in 30 minutes FLAT!!!! NO MORE, NO LESS!!!! Mic and
Tru would be so proud!!!!
Pulling
up to the Villa Ronai parking lot we were sure we
had missed everything, that all had been packed up and the
red carpet rolled in. Au Contraire, we were the early ones!!!
For once I was somewhere on time! What worried me now was
why noone else was there yet. The car park was practically
empty, (lucky for us in the long run), so we ended up wid
a nice likkle parking space.
Walking
down a beautifully torch lit stoned path, the unique character
of the venue hits you. Villa Ronai is nestled in moderately
cool Stony Hill. You are surrounded by towering trees and
plants creating a vibe like you are in the middle of a forest
with sculptures of deer and owls peering out at you. It’s
a dream venue for a small event. A great big blown up photo
of the Killer hugging
No Doubt’s
Gwen Stefani nudges me back to reality, lest
I forget why I am here.
We
step into the still very empty venue where the stage has
been set and silver balloons line the ceilings. The bar
looks a pretty sight with its barmaids all lined up ready
to serve dressed in sexy white shirts, tied in the front
with cute little bow ties. Bounty stands in the centre of
it all surrounded by several (early) journalists conducting
an animated interview. I snap a couple of pics of the Main
Man and then head towards the open bar. There was a slow
trickle of people gradually filling in the empty spaces,
and it was beginning to look like a real party. Phew!! Not
like I ever worried about the Killer flopping out, c’mon!!!
As
I walked around taking pictures I ran into TOK who mentioned
going on tour soon. VC stood nearby and I took a couple
pictures with him, then moved on to mingle and find my bredrin
who had by now disappeared. In my search I ran into Claudette
Powell and we embarked on a journey to the back of the venue
by the awesome poolside where Spragga, Ricky Rudie and Roundhead
were holding a medi’ (chillin). Making small talk, Spragga
tells me he’s working on new material for his upcoming album...
music to my ears.
Shortly
after taking a few more pictures, we head back into the
party just in time for Bounty cutting this great big cake
decorated with a large picture of him on one side, on the
other a picture of the platinum record, and ‘Congratulations
Bounty’ written across the bottom. This closed the door
on the “formalities” of the evening, opening it to pure
party vibes hereon... That spirit was definitely climbing.
The
bar was in full effect, and now all those sweet bartenders
were scrambling around in a frenzy, determined to meet every
order. I started on the champagne but by the time I went
back for my third glass it was finished. So that was it
for me too.
Still
no sign of my bredrin, I decided to have some food instead
and there was loads to choose from. It ranged from snacks
like chips and nuts to full out dinner. I had the shrimps
and the curry.
